My personal design work involves exploring the iconic characters of myth in the form of icons. The first series focuses on the Greek gods of the Bronze Age and gives a modern twist to their character looks. The series features a few redesigned characters, including Hades and Apollo.
In Greek mythology, Hades, the god of the Underworld, shares a similar look with his brother Zeus. Both Greek kings are depicted with beards and togas that are uninspired and unexpressive in their characters. In this version, Hades' underworld darkness and royalty are brought out by giving him an ornate helmet, crown, and domino mask to conceal something much darker within. To make him more polished than Zeus, he is clean-shaven. This is a fitting choice for a ruler because shaving in the Bronze Age was only available to the wealthy and powerful.
Similarly, Apollo's classic look resembles a generic Greek god. In this iteration, he has two forms inspired by NASA. In the astronaut look, he wears a futuristic '60s science fiction space suit with a helmet. In his non-explorer look, he wears a hybrid of his classic Greek appearance and a pilot's uniform underneath an astronaut suit with a head covering.

The tiles underwent a significant design evolution to enhance the mobile gaming experience. Originally featuring song titles for use in sports games on phones, the challenge of readability in a 4x4 grid led to my proposal to complement them with simple icons representing pop culture references. This balanced approach, incorporating both song titles and icons in a 50/50 mix, not only improved visual appeal but also optimized the gaming experience for quick deciphering. The introduction of icon packs as a revenue stream added financial viability to CitySolve's white-label gaming platform, enriching the gameplay and ensuring a strategic business advantage. The adoption of these icons, alongside song titles, in the starter pack signifies a pivotal enhancement in Square Smash's design and overall gaming dynamics.

These icons were designed for three AI-powered field guide apps - Birds, Leps, and Fungi. Innovative geometric art icons were created to convey the technological nature of the platform. The expressive colors humanize the experience, setting them apart from competitors who use painted illustrations or flat clipart. The nuanced approach resonates with those seeking functionality and aesthetic appeal.
